Page | 28 Evaluating the Effectiveness of Vista Higher Learning’s Engage with Literature and Content for High School Students This document summarizes the study design for the VHL Engage Level 1 and Level 2 research evidence gathering being conducted for the Engage program, including the status of the research. Current Status SEG is conducting a Level 1/Level 2 ePectiveness study of the Engage program on behalf of VHL. At this point, SEG and VHL have completed and documented the study design and are engaged in sampling of participants for the study. The design calls for an ESSA Level 1 experimental study with random sampling to evaluate the ePectiveness of Engage. Depending on the final sample identified, the study may be retargeted as an ESSA Level 2 quasi-experimental design with matched intervention (treatment) and comparison (control) groups. To date, we have completed the study design and initial phases of recruitment/sampling. We will complete the participant selection and sampling between April and August 2024. Instruction will be delivered incorporating Engage (or traditionally) for about 32 weeks from October 2024 until May 2025. We will complete the pretest data collection in October and November of 2024, and complete the posttest data collection in March and April of 2025. The data will be analyzed, and the study design, implementation, and outcomes will be documented in May and June 2025. Overview Many students fail to acquire the necessary language skills during their early schooling and by the time they enter high school are at risk academically. During the 2024–2025 school year, SEG will conduct a study of the ePectiveness of Vista’s Engage with Literature and Content for improving the reading skills of high school level students. The study was conducted with randomly sampled 9th−12th grade students from
