S26 DICHO Y HECHO: PROYECTO ORAL AND PROYECTO ESCRITO 130 • Capítulo 4 DICHO Y HECHO Proyecto escrito: Comer en la universidad Estrategia de redacción: Considering audience and type of text The audience (whom you are writing for) and the type of text, such as a letter, an e-mail, or an essay, greatly determine the content, form, and type of language you should use. If you are writing an e-mail about your first weeks in college to your freshman advisor, the content, form, and level of formality will be different from those of a social media post that you would write on the same topic. Paso 1 You are going to write about your eating experiences on campus or in the town where you live. Consider and compare appropriate choices for these text options. a. an e-mail to a close relative who sometimes sends you money for school b. a report requested by the Director of Dining Services to assess student satisfaction with campus dining For each type of text, consider: • Audience and purpose What would you try to convey with each type of audience? What would be your goal in each case? • Content What type of information would be relevant and appropriate in each case? Are there any ideas or details that may be appropriate for one of the options but not the other? • Writing format How would the two types of text differ in format? • Tone and style What level of formality would be appropriate in each text? Would you use tú or usted? What vocabulary choices are suitable in each case? Paso 2 Select one of the options described in Paso 1, and start planning your writing. • Develop an idea map with clusters of ideas, supporting details, and examples. Then, select the most relevant ideas, keeping in mind your audience and type of text. • Consider how to organize your ideas in paragraphs and what details to include in each paragraph. The text should follow a logical sequence, and ideas should be connected. • Review the writing strategies and connectors in previous chapters as you plan your writing. Paso 3 Write a text of approximately 150-200 words with the format and audience you have selected, describing your experiences eating on campus. Be prepared to share your project with the class. I CAN describe my experience eating on campus. ¡Atención! Ask your instructor to share the Rúbrica de calificación (Grading Rubric) to understand how your work will be assessed. Para escribir mejor: Always try to express your ideas using the language that you already know. However, when you look up a word, pay attention to its part of speech (noun, verb, adjective, etc.). Using the example “I can fly to New York,” look up the words can and fly in a reputable online dictionary, using the “English to Spanish” section, and write what you find. Can you identify any potential issues? What is the correct translation of “I can fly to New York”? Learning Objective: Describe your experience eating on campus. As a student, you have opinions about the food options at your university and/or where you live. Describe your experiences related to food and eating there. First, choose an audience. Then, prepare by taking a few minutes to review the vocabulary and grammar from this chapter, and write down key words that could help you express your ideas.
