IMAGINA SIXTH EDITION - PROGRAM SAMPLER

IAE-42 TEACHING WITH IMAGINA Suggestions for Using Literatura Preparación • Preview the vocabulary in Preparación using the activities provided and the suggestions for teaching vocabulary on page IAE-35. • Read the background information about each author. • Introduce important themes and literary techniques used in the reading and call attention to genre and style. Encourage students to think about other works they have read in Spanish or English from the same genre or that make use of similar themes and techniques. Literary Readings • Talk to students about how to become effective readers in Spanish. Point out the importance of using reading strategies. Encourage them to read every selection more than once. Explain that they should read the entire text through first to gain a general understanding of the plot or main ideas without stopping to look up words. Then, they should read the text again for a more in-depth understanding of the material. • Discourage students from translating the readings into English and relying too heavily on a dictionary. Tell them that reading directly in the language will help them grasp the meaning better and improve their ability to discuss the reading in Spanish. • Use the reading to reinforce the themes and linguistic structures of each lesson. Análisis • Have students scan the comprehension questions before reading. Ask students to summarize the reading orally or in writing. • For the Escribir activities (and other writing assignments), have students maintain a writing portfolio so that they can periodically review their progress. The Composition Engine on the Supersite allows you to edit a student's draft. Have students create a running list of the most common grammatical or spelling errors they make when writing to use as a reference when revising their work or for peer editing. Explain your grading system for writing assignments. This rubric could be used or adapted to suit your needs.
