IMAGINA SIXTH EDITION - PROGRAM SAMPLER

IAE-39 TEACHING WITH IMAGINA Suggestions for Using Imagina The Imagina section is designed to be visually stimulating and highly interactive. Use this section in conjunction with the multimedia and online resources available to students and instructors. At vhlcentral.com, students can access the Flash cultura video, comprehension activities, and information about the notable figures in the Galería de creadores. In addition to the general suggestions listed here, the Instructor’s Resources, available on the Supersite, contain specific teaching ideas and activities for all ten Imagina sections. • Use the locator map in the lesson opener to help students become familiar with the country or region of focus. • Use the opening spread of Imagina to introduce the country or region, and direct students to the Supersite for additional information. The feature articles can be assigned for outside reading or you may use them in class to develop reading skills. • Call students’ attention to the El español de... feature. You may wish to bring in film or audio samples from the Film Collection, local TV and radio, or online resources to expose students to lexical variations and regional accents. • Use the ¡Conozcamos...!/¡Visitemos…!, etc. feature as you would a travel brochure to highlight “must-see” locations in each country or region. Encourage students to bring in photographs from their own travels, or assign group projects to research important cities, parks, architecture, or museums, depending on the theme of each lesson. • Show the Flash cultura video in class via the Supersite or assign it for outside viewing. Activities related to each episode are built into the text, with additional activities available at vhlcentral.com and in the Student Activities Manual. • Check comprehension using the ¿Qué aprendiste? feature. • Depending on your teaching preferences and time constraints, you may wish to use all of the Explora features or you might select some for large oral projects. You may choose to have all students complete each Explora activity or you may assign one or two small groups for each Explora activity. • Direct students to the Supersite for additional information about each of the cultural figures from the Galería de creadores. Print out additional examples of artists’ work for use in class discussion. You may wish to incorporate additional readings from Galería authors into the Literatura lesson, focusing on genre, theme, or specific literary techniques. The films of famous directors and actors can be assigned for outside viewing and integrated with the Cortometraje section. You may also have students select figures in the Galería de creadores section for oral and written projects, such as mock interviews and biographies. S37
