Have students create a list of four additional foods (or related words) that are not in the vocabulary presentation and look up the words for these foods in the dictionary. The class can compile their lists, making a poster for each food group, using drawings or images whenever possible. Hang the posters in the room so students can refer to them when they need additional vocabulary words to complete an activity. Warm-Up • Ask students to list three food items and one beverage they typically eat at each meal, in English or Spanish. Also have them list what time they usually eat each meal. Preparation • First, have students look at the pictures of the food vocabulary. Point out that these are typical meals for people in the United States. In most Spanish-speaking countries, people eat their heavier meal at lunchtime and a lighter meal at dinnertime. Why do students think that is? • Then separate the vocabulary into three parts: el desayuno, el almuerzo, and la cena. Ask students how many of the items from the Warm-Up are given in this vocabulary segment. También se dice el refresco = la gaseosa la torta = el pastel Activities 10. This activity is a game similar to “Telephone.” Each person needs to remember what was said previously and add a word or phrase. Answers will vary. 11.
