Chemins 2 - PROGRAM SAMPLER

T21 Walkthrough Teacher’s Edition • Walkthrough Chemins is built around Vista Higher Learning’s proven six-step instructional design. Each unit is organized into color-coded strands that present new material in clear, comprehensible, and communicative ways. With a focus on personalization, authenticity, cultural immersion, and the seamless integration of text and technology, language learning comes to life in ways that are meaningful to each and every student. Context Provide students with a place to start. Let them share their own experiences with and about the unit topic. Vocabulary Give students a new linguistic code to express what they already know and experience in the context of the unit theme. Media Once students see that French is a tool for expressing their own ideas, media helps them relate their own experiences to those of native speakers. Culture Bring students into the experience of contemporary French-speaking culture as seen from the perspective of those living it. Structure The formal presentation of relevant grammar and scaffolded, personalized activities help students leverage grammar as a tool for building confidence, fluency, and accuracy. Synthesis Pulling everything together, students integrate context, personal experience, communication tools, and cultural products, perspectives, and practices. 1 2 3 4 5 6 Six-step instructional design Chemins and the Nouvelle orthographe In 1990, the Académie française officially approved a series of new recommended spelling rules, popularly known as the Nouvelle orthographe, which began to take broader effect in 2016. Following are a few examples of the new spellings. • connaît → connait • week-end → weekend • événement → évènement • des après-midi → des après-midis Because the new spelling rules have not yet been widely adopted, the traditional spelling rules remain in effect, only a small number of words are affected, and many francophones are reluctant to adopt the new rules, Chemins continues to display French text according to conventional rules.
