List them on the board in two columns. • Call out names of famous athletes and have students say: Il/Elle joue au _____. Successful Language Learning Suggest that students use mnemonic devices to memorize vocabulary. Examples: Use alliteration for interrogative words like qui, quand, and quoi. Group words in categories, such as team sports (football, basketball, volley-ball) versus those that are usually played one-onone (échecs, cartes, tennis). Learn word “families,” such as un jeu, jouer, un joueur, and une joueuse. Brainstorming Have students give their opinions about activities in Contextes. Brainstorm pairs of adjectives that apply to activities and write them on the board. Examples: agréable/désagréable, intéressant/ennuyeux, utile/inutile, facile/difficile. Then ask questions like these: Le football, c’est intéressant ou c’est ennuyeux? Le tennis, c’est facile ou difficile? Jacques a dit Play a game of Jacques a dit (Simon says) using the activities in this section. Tell students to mime each activity only if they hear the words Jacques a dit. If a student mimes an activity not preceded by Jacques a dit, he or she is eliminated from the game. The last person standing wins. You might want students to take turns calling out activities.
