Suggestions for Using Ampliación Escuchar • Briefly discuss the listening tip in each Escuchar activity with students. Point out how these strategies will help them develop their listening skills. • For further suggestions on the Escuchar activity, see A escuchar, page IAE-42. Conversar • For suggestions, see A conversar, page IAE-43. Escribir • These activities can be assigned as homework or done in class as pair or group writing activities. • Briefly discuss the writing tip in each Escribir activity with students. Point out how these strategies will help them develop their writing skills in Spanish. • In the first lesson, explain the four steps in the writing process (Organizar, Escribir, Corregir, and Compartir) and their purpose. Show students the rubric you will use to grade their work (see the instructor annotations), perhaps with some examples. • Encourage students to be creative in their writing, but remind them to keep their writing simple and to use vocabulary and structures they know. Suggestions for Using Lectura • Discuss the Antes de leer with students. Emphasize that these reading tips will develop their reading skills. Discourage students from translating the readings or relying on a dictionary. • If the Lectura is used as an in-class reading comprehension exercise, students can complete the ¿Comprendiste? and Preguntas activities orally as a class, in pairs, or in small groups. Suggestions for Using Aventuras en los países hispanos • This section can be used as an in-class or outside-of-class assignment. It may also be presented at any time you see fit; you do not have to wait until the end of the lesson it follows. • Have students look at the map, or use the Digital Image Bank with the map.
