AVENTURAS - PROGRAM SAMPLER

A conversar • Have students form pairs or groups quickly, or assign students to pairs and groups. • Allow sufficient time for pairs or groups to do the A conversar activities (between five and fifteen minutes depending on the activity), but do not give them too much time or they may lapse into English and socialize. Always give students a time limit for an activity before they begin. • Insist on the use of Spanish only. Encourage students to use language creatively. • Monitor students and note common errors to be worked on for general improvement. • Remind students to jot down information during the interview and survey activities. Pronunciación • Explain how the sounds are pronounced. • Have students find examples of the sounds in the corresponding and preceding lessons’ vocabulary lists. • Model pronunciation of example words followed by choral repetition. • Remind students that the Pronunciación section is recorded on the Supersite, so they can practice the sounds on their own. Suggestions for Using Aventuras • To introduce the Aventuras fotonovela video, first have students do the Video Recap activity. • Have students complete the Antes de ver activity. • Have students read the first half of the Aventuras video captions and predict what will happen in the second half. • See ideas under Suggestions for Using the Video Programs, page IAE-38. • Go over the Expresiones útiles and point out the words and phrases that are used particularly in Spain. • Assign the activities, which can be done orally as class, pair, or group activities. Some may be assigned as written homework if they do not involve pair or group work. Suggestions for Using Cultura • Relate Cultura to the lesson theme. • Use the photos as a basis for cross-cultural comparisons. Have students describe what they see in each photo and then explain how things are similar or different in their culture. In the early lessons, this discussion should be conducted in English since students lack the necessary linguistic ability in Spanish. • Use Cultura as a pronunciation exercise by having different students read aloud.
