AVENTURAS - PROGRAM SAMPLER

Suggestions for Using the Video Programs The video programs are extremely flexible. Students and instructors have access to all four programs on the Aventuras Supersite (vhlcentral.com). All videos may be shown in class or assigned for out-of-class viewing. You may choose to consistently show one or two videos in class, or vary the ones you show depending on time and interest. Students always have access to the material, so they can get the most out of its valuable cultural and linguistic input even if you do not have time to show everything in class. Aventuras Fully integrated with the text, the Aventuras fotonovela video is a dynamic and contemporary window into the Spanish language. The video centers around a group of friends in Madrid, Spain. Manuel, Juanjo, Valentina, and Olga Lucía are college students who live in the same apartment building. Manuel’s cousin Sara also lives there with her father, Paco, the landlord. Her friend Daniel completes the group. The Aventuras section in Lecciones 1–16 of the student text and the Aventuras fotonovela video were created as integrated pieces. Both the Aventuras conversations and their expanded video versions represent comprehensible input at the discourse level; they were purposely written to use language from the corresponding lesson’s Preparación and Gramática sections. Thus, as of Lección 2, they recycle known language, preview grammar points students will study later in the lesson, and, in keeping with the concept of “i + 1,” contain a small amount of unknown language. Because the Aventuras sections in the text and the video episodes are so closely connected, you may use them in different ways. For instance, you can use each Aventuras section as an advance organizer, presenting it before showing the video module. You can also show the video module first and follow up with the Aventuras section in the text, or you can show the video module at the end of the lesson as a synthesis activity. You might also want to use the Aventuras fotonovela video in class when working with Gramática by playing the sections of the dramatic episode that correspond to the video stills in the grammar explanations or showing parts of the episode and asking students to identify certain structures. Flash cultura Flash cultura is a dynamic cultural video fully integrated into the Cultura strand. Filmed in eight countries, Flash cultura features correspondents that present various aspects of life in the Spanish-speaking world, always related to the lesson theme. The episodes gradually transition from English into Spanish, but each episode—even the early ones—delivers authentic input through spontaneous interviews with native speakers. IAE-38 supersite S36
