Project | 285H UNIT 8 Suggestions UNIT 8 Project School improvement plan Students interview classmates, teachers, and staff at their school to identify an area needing improvement, then draft a plan to make necessary changes before presenting their plan to the school principal. As a class, brainstorm a list of interview questions for students to use when speaking with classmates, teachers, and staff at their school to identify an area that needs improvement. Student pairs interview classmates, teachers, and staff at their school to identify an area where improvement is needed (i.e. hoards of plastic utensils are being disposed of daily in the cafeteria, students do not have enough time to eat lunch, untouched food is thrown away from student trays). After identifying an area that needs change, students draft a plan for improvement that includes: problem, possible solution, materials needed for solution, and person(s) responsible for making the change. Once a rough draft is written, students revisit the person(s) who identified the area of need and present their plan of improvement to receive feedback. (Is the plan reasonable? Are there any issues, additional steps, or additional person(s) needed to help carry out the plan?) Students meet with the teacher to get additional feedback before writing a final draft of their improvement plan. Final drafts are presented to the school principal for approval to put the improvement plan in action. Suggested Reading Explore Natural Resources by Anita Yasuda What are natural resources?
