UNIT X UNIT 7 | 281 DIFFERENTIATED INSTRUCTION Scaffold To support students when completing the graphic organizer, write these questions on the board: What will the setting be? Who will the main characters be? What types of technology will they use? What will the main events be? If students have trouble thinking of ideas, brainstorm ideas of technology they think people might use in the future. Ask them to consider these questions: What does the setting look and feel like? What do the main characters look and sound like? What happens to move the story forward? What do the types of technology do? Plan • Analyze the Student Model Discuss the graphic organizer. Then create a blank one on the board. Complete a model graphic organizer with your own ideas to share with students. Draft Express ideas in writing Point out the instruction and features students need to include. Then model using your organizer to draft the beginning of a short story. Have students identify the features your draft includes. Ask: What is the setting? Who are the main characters?
