Sound out the adjectives’ syllables by tapping a pencil on your desk and saying the words slowly. Tap and say: Tall. How many syllables are in tall? (one) Threatened. How many syllables are in threatened? (two) Amplify Have students talk about a place they are familiar with, such as the school, a shopping mall, or an amusement park. Have them use at least four superlative adjectives of degree. GRAMMAR: Superlative Adjectives • Understand superlative adjectives Read the grammar box aloud. Say: We use superlative adjectives to compare three or more people or things to make an adjective or adverb stronger or weaker. Ask a volunteer to read the example sentences aloud. Then choral read as a class the information in the chart about forming superlative adjectives. A • Use superlative adjectives Write the first sentence on the board.
