Escritura Escritura develops writing skills in the context of the lesson theme. Students learn to apply writing strategies which scaffold the writing process and improve the quality of their written communication skills in the target language. General Suggestions: Writing Presentational writing serves to communicate meaning, and students must ensure that their audience can understand their message. Remind students to take into account spelling, mechanics, and the logical sequencing of their work. Remember that activities in other strands such as Cultura and Estructura provide writing practice with shorter tasks. Estrategia provides strategies for preparing and executing the writing task related to the lesson theme. This writing task allows students to present information, concepts, and ideas to inform, explain, or persuade on a variety of topics. Tema provides the writing topic and includes suggestions for approaching it. Evaluation provides a sample rubric for the writing task. Rubrics provide clarity to students on how they will be evaluated and provide a consistent guide for evaluating their written work. Record their suggestions in Spanish on the board. Quickly review structures students will include in their writing, such as me gusta and no me gusta as well as the first-person singular of several verbs, for example: soy, estoy, tomo, trabajo, estudio . Tema Copy on the board the brief chat room description for Alicia Roberts, leaving blanks where her name, course of study, and university name appear. At the end, add the sentences Me gusta _____. and No me gusta _____. Model completing the description orally with your information and then ask volunteers to complete it with their information. In the early stages of writing, brainstorming can help you generate ideas on a specific topic. You should spend ten to fifteen minutes brainstorming and jotting down any ideas about the topic. Whenever possible, try to write your ideas in Spanish. Express your ideas in single words or phrases, and jot them down in any order. While brainstorming, don’t worry about whether your ideas are good or bad. Selecting and organizing ideas should be the second stage of your writing.
