PERSPECTIVES and the Nouvelle orthographe In 1990, the Académie française officially approved a series of new recommended spelling rules, popularly known as the Nouvelle orthographe , which began to take broader effect in 2016 (e.g., connaît/connait , week-end/weekend , événement/évènement ). Because the traditional spelling rules remain in effect, many francophones are reluctant to adopt the new rules. PERSPECTIVES , therefore, continues to display French text according to traditional rules. Nevertheless, alternate spellings of applicable words are listed for reference in the Vocabulaire glossaries at the back of the textbook and accepted in Supersite activities. IAE-31 COMPONENTS 9
