Display the word time . • Tap the t and ask: What is the sound? (/t/) • With two fingers, tap i and e and ask: Sound? /īīī/ • Tap the letter m and ask: Sound? /m/. • Point to the word and ask: What’s the word? ( time ) Slide your finger under the whole word as students respond. Lead students in blending these words: like, lake, huge, note, flute, grape, game, frame. Word Skills Review VCe Syllables Remind students that when they encounter words with more than one syllable, they should look for patterns and parts they know to determine how to divide the syllables. Write suppose, admire, sunrise, cupcake, and excuse . Invite individual students to first identify the vowels, marking e by its name and other vowels with v . Then call on other students to mark the syllable division and read the word. Call on volunteers to use the word in a sentence. High-Frequency Words Distribute one copy of BLM 2.6 to each student. Students should fill out a Bingo card with a different high-frequency word in each blank space. Encourage them to use words they still need to master. Then have small groups play "Bingo." One student can be the caller and use high-frequency words from their BLM Practice Words. The players should use coins or other markers to cover each word that is called. Players call out “Bingo!” when they get five words in a row. Assign Worktext Page 11 to be completed at workstations. ✺ AMPLIFY Have students design their own game to practice their BLM Practice Word sets.
