Have students use the proofing marks on BLM 2.5 to proofread their work independently or with a partner. ✦ SCAFFOLD During proofreading, provide students with a copy of the dictation sentences for comparison. Have them use a highlighter to trace the correct spellings of words they misspelled during dictation. ✷ ASSESS AND RETEACH Assess Have the student read aloud the first two columns of words on Worktext Page 9. Allow students time to self-correct. Reteach If a student doesn’t consistently accurately read words with the VCVe pattern, have themmark up the words on Worktext Page 9. Students should write v in blue below all the vowels except the e at the end. Show them how to cross out the e and add a long vowel mark, or macron, above the vowel that is modified by it.
