Questo ( This /These ) and quello ( that / those ) can function as demonstrative adjectives and as demonstrative pronouns. Remember, an adjective describes a noun; a pronoun takes the place of a noun. 2. As an adjective, questo has four forms: questo, questi, questa, queste. It contracts to quest’ before a singular noun beginning with a vowel. 3. As an adjective, quello follows the same pattern as the adjective bello. Quei mobili sono belli. That furniture is beautiful. Quegli orologi sono cari. Those watches are expensive. Quell’ appartamento è molto grande. That apartment is very large. 4. As pronouns used in place of a noun, questo and quello each have four forms: questo, questi, questa, queste and quello, quelli, quella, quelle. In the following examples, quello replaces film and questi replaces libri. — Quale film preferisci vedere? — Which film do you want to see? — Preferisco vedere quello. — I prefer that one. — Quali libri compri? — Which books are you buying? — Compro questi. — I’m buying these.
