EN TU MEDIO - PROGRAM SAMPLER

Cultura This culture section offers a window into the lives of real people who live and work in the regions of study. Rather than focusing on facts and figures of each country, this section presents interviews, blogs, articles, biographies, and profiles of people (both ordinary and extraordinary) who exemplify some unique cultural aspect, social issue, or historical insight into the region of study. The brief readings are readily accessible to students at this level and include reading strategies, Antes de leer and Después de leer activities to boost comprehension and foster analytical thinking. Pictures and realia help students vi- sualize what they are reading, and Notas de lengua or Notas cul- turales provide student-friendly insights. Each culture section concludes with Investig@ en Internet , an opportunity to further explore an area of interest. Vocabulario 2 This section presents a different aspect of the chapter’s theme. Like the first vocabulary section, it pres- ents an accessible number of words and is visually supported in context. It is followed by ample practice activities in diverse for- mats, which integrate the chapter’s video, cultural, and gram- matical concepts. Gramática 3 and 4 These sections present the chap- ter’s final grammatical concepts, often an integration or expan- sion on the first two topics presented. Like prior grammar sec- tions, Gramática 3 and Gramática 4 build toward the chapter’s communicative goals, expand on the cultural context established previously with the chapter reading and video, and incorporate chapter vocabulary with ample, differentiated practice activities. Literatura This section presents an engaging literary reading that provides sophisticated insight into the culture and/ or social issues of the target area. ¿Y tú qué piensas? This concluding section allows stu- dents to put together holistically everything they have learned in the chapter. Based on the cultural context of the video or cortometraje , this section shows students how much they have learned while challenging them to react, analyze, and respond on a personal level. It emphasizes oral and written production, with task-based activities designed to help students create and express themselves with the language, negotiate meaning, successfully resolve conflicts or complications, and engage in open-ended communication for real-world purposes. Repaso de vocabulario These concluding sections provide an at-a-glance overview and reference for the chapter. The Repaso de vocabulario unites all chapter vocabulary in a single, convenient glossary.
