Exploraciones | ciento cinco 105 Present tense of -er and -ir verbs Remember in Chapter 3 you learned to use -ar verbs to tell about the activities that you and others do. In Spanish, there is also a group of -er and -ir verbs that have similar sets of endings. Refer to the following chart and compare the endings of the three groups. What do the three groups of -ar , -er and -ir verbs have in common? 2. How are the three groups different? You will now find a chart of the verb form that you use with each person. Notice that at the top, the three verbs are listed in their dictionary form ( cantar, aprender, escribir ), and below these, the endings have been added to the stem of each verb. Remember that the stem is what remains after you remove the -ar , -er or -ir .
