Have students write b on one side of a piece of paper and d on the other. Say words beginning with b or d and have students raise the correct letter. Possible words include ball , baby , bed , bounce ; dad , dog , desk , and day . Amplify Have pairs race against time in a friendly competition. Have one student write b , s , t , f , or d on the board and set a timer for thirty seconds. Then, have the classmate list words with that sound. The sound may be in the beginning, middle, or end of the word. Have students take turns to see how many words they can list. Finally, have classmates tally the words from their lists. Check students’ lists to ensure their words are correct English words. Instructional Routine p.
