The Enlaces Story You might notice that Enlaces: nivel intermedio • curso intensivo shares the look and feel of another Vista Higher Learning title, Imagina : español sin barreras , also by José A. Blanco and C. Cecilia Tocaimaza-Hatch. Imagina is a ten-lesson intermediate Spanish program designed to be used over two semesters. After Imagina was published, students and instructors got in touch with VHL and requested a shorter version of Imagina , for use in a one- semester course. And so VHL published Sueña , a shorter version of Imagina , with only 6 lessons. But our work was not yet done! Students, instructors and VHL’s Modern Language Specialists reported that they wanted a real fourth- semester intermediate program —one to use after three semesters of introductory Spanish coursework. This is how Enlaces came to be! Enlaces is brief enough, at six lessons, to be used over one semester, and there is minimal review of introductory-level material. Vocabulary is presented in a new way in Enlaces : the blog gives students a contextualized reading experience. Intermediate students should be able to infer the meaning of unknown words or expressions. Grammar topics have been carefully selected, consolidated, and organized to eliminate review of introductory topics. The Cortometraje section has been shortened somewhat to four pages. Cultural readings in the Imagina and Cultura sections, along with TV clips, continue to provide access to high-interest and authentic aspects of the Spanish-speaking world.
