Language transfer and interference Spanish speakers pronounce each vowel in Spanish so they may try to transfer that to English. Also the letter i is pronounced as long e. Amplify For students already familiar with the CVCe pattern, extend to the VCe pattern in two syllable words. The second syllable should contain a long vowel i. Have students write the words reptile, textile, invite, sunshine, and dislike. They should decode each word, read it aloud, and cite the pattern.
