Ask children to copy the words and draw a picture of each to help them remember the meanings. • Write simple sentences Have children work alone to write a sentence with a compound word of their choice. Games Write the following words separately on index cards: gold, fish, rail, road, lady, bug, swim, suit, sun, shine, foot, and ball. Pass the cards out to children. Have them read the word on their card and then look for a classmate whose card can be combined with theirs to create a compound word. When all children have found the appropriate pair, write the words in a chart, discuss the meaning, and add a picture next to each.
