(mariposa, hermosa) Read the poemagain and have students create amental image of the butterfly. The Sound /m/ Explain to students that there are many words that have the /m/ sound at the beginning, in the middle, or at the end. Say the following words aloud slowly: música, mono, cama, hermano, mamá, mochila. Have students hum Mmmmmm after each word. Then ask students to raise their hands each time they hear a word with /m/. Say the following words: mesa, lago, mira, mañana, amo, gato, oso, Manuel. Recognize Syllables and Words Cuaderno 3, p. 33 Display the Alphabet Picture Card for M, m . Comment on the shape of the letters as you trace them with your finger. Then direct students to the top of page 33 and ask: • ¿Qué letras ven aquí? (la M mayúscula y la m minúscula) • ¿Qué dibujo ven? (una mariposa) • ¿Con qué letra comienza la palabra mariposa ? (m) Then read aloud the sentence and have students follow along in their books. Point out the words with the syllables ma, mo and mu (hermosa, mariposa, muchos). Clap out the syllables in each word. Explain to students that every syllable must have a vowel sound to determine the number of syllables in a word.
