La cartilla - PROGRAM SAMPLER

T26 La letra Lesson 7 m Develop Phonemic Awareness Warm Up Ask students to share what they know about going to the market. Read the poem “ Al mercado con mamá ” (available online in Resources). Emphasize the /m/ sounds at the beginning of words. The Sound /m/ Tell students that you will say a word very slowly. Say the word mono . First say sound by sound, then separate the syllables, and finally blend the whole word. Stretch out both sounds in the word so students can hear the distinct sounds. Also, use a kinesthetic movement as you stretch sounds: tap your shoulder and then your elbow to show each of the two syllable sounds found at the beginning and end of the word. Then double tap your shoulder to focus on the first sound. Have students repeat each syllable and then say the word naturally: mono . Explain to students that there are many words that begin with /m/. Say the following animal names aloud slowly: mula, mariposa, mono, manatí, murciélago, morsa . Have students hum mmmmm after each word. Identify Initial Sounds Cuaderno 1, p. 23 Direct students to the center of page 23 and ask: • ¿Qué dibujo ven aquí?
